Controller

JOB SUMMARY:

Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary is looking for an experienced accounting leader to join our team. Reporting the Vice President of Finance and Administration, the Controller contributes to the overall success of the Seminary by partnering with internal and external stakeholders to oversee and perform essential accounting activities.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:

Vice President of Finance and Administration

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage Business Office, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, student loans and general ledger functions.
  • Accounting for Unitized/Dollarization Pooled Endowments.
  • Cash Flow Forecasting.
  • Monthly closing of general ledger, reconciliation of accounts and preparation of financial reports.
  • Respond to requests for financial information from accounting system users.
  • Manage banking relationships for checking, short-term investment and endowment accounts.
  • Attend Board meetings and prepare reports for Board of Trustee Finance, Audit and Executive Committees.
  • Coordinate annual year-end financial statement audit.
  • Provide support for external grant financial reporting.
  • Manage relationships with third party service providers for financial and accounting services.
  • Other duties as assigned

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Commitment to the mission, values and success of Louisville Seminary.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting of Finance; CPA a plus
  • Minimum of 5 years total accounting experience with at least 2+ years relevant non-profit accounting experience with a preference in higher education
  • Managerial experience resulting in the success of others.
  • Proficient in Excel, Great Plains, Sage Intacct and Populi software preferred
  • Ability to prioritize and reassess in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy; timeline oriented.
  • Solid communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Personal qualities of integrity and collegiality.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality, professionalism and discretion.
  • Ability to promote and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with persons from diverse racial, cultural and religious backgrounds.

COMPENSATION:

Full time, exempt position offering a full range of benefits, including 403B pension benefit, and health insurance.
