Chapel Minister Musician

The Chapel Minister Musician will spend 5-10 hours per week participating in worship planning and providing regular musical accompaniment for Wednesday afternoon chapel services. Duties and responsibilities therein include:

  • Attend weekly planning meetings (Mondays 11:30am-1:00pm ET) to determine themes, coordinate order of worship, and prepare liturgy, rituals, and music for weekly campus worship services.
  • Perform regular musical accompaniment for:
    • virtual services via Zoom on Wednesday afternoons at noon ET (weekly)
  • Perform musical accompaniment as able for:
    • in-person services in Caldwell Chapel on Thursday afternoons at noon ET (weekly)
    • in-person prayer services in Schlegel Hall on first Friday mornings at 9:00am ET (monthly)
  • Invite members of LPTS student body, faculty, and staff to lead and participate in worship as preachers, liturgists, and musicians.
  • Serve as a student liaison to the Liturgy and Life Committee.

This position will include regular check-ins with supervisor in the context of weekly planning meetings and the leading of worship services. Required skills include: ability to play guitar, piano, and/or other chordal instrument; ability to read and play from sheet music; working familiarity with sacred music in the context of a faith community; and comfort and curiosity engaging worshipful elements from wide variety of interfaith and ecumenical traditions. Preferred skills include: experience preparing and presenting sacred music in the context of worship services or other live performance; working familiarity with the African-American Heritage Hymnal (GIA Publications, 2001) and Glory To God hymnal (Westminster John Knox Press, 2013); and working familiarity with Google Suite and Zoom.
