Ted Burke, director of dining services, is pleased to report that LPTS staff member Derrick L. Harris received the 2009 Zoom Group Awesome Client Award at a banquet, held at The Olmstead on May 20.
The award, which was presented during Zoom Group’s annual Spring Zing event, is given to a client or clients “that have shown exemplary progress or that shows a distinguished dedication to the spirit of success.”
Celebrating its 23rd anniversary, the Zoom Group helps adults with mental challenges experience a sense of belonging in the community. The organization helps find jobs for their clients and provides meaningful day programs. Zoom Group clients bag groceries, do landscaping throughout the community, and run the VA Medical Center laundry facility. A crew of nearly 100 clients works at the UPS Supply Chain Solutions.
Derrick Harris has worked with dining services at Louisville Seminary, since July 12, 2005.
At the banquet this past Wednesday, Zoom Group recognized that Derrick’s placement at Louisville Seminary has been far more than a job to him. It has also been a second family to him and to those with whom he works.
“All of us at Zoom Group want you to know that your work and your many accomplishments are an inspiration to us all! You set an example of true success for others,” said Annie Rosenberg-Sattich, President of Zoom Group.
In his acceptance speech, Derek thanked all of the people who have been important in his life. “I thanked my grandmother, all my friends at Louisville Seminary, Ted Burke and Laura, and for sure Gloria, who was the person that found this job at the Seminary for me,” Derrick said this morning, as he proudly displayed his award.
The Zoom Group is a Metro United Way agency and 501C# charitable organization. Gifts to Zoom Group help sustain many projects and programs, including the wheelchair-accessible Garden House, located behind Ursuline Campus, which is tended by day program clients and nearby neighbors; and Studio Works, where talented clients create magnificent works of art in clay, fiber, mosaic, photography, paint, and print.
