The Director has overall responsibility for ministry to children from birth through 5th grade; works as staff resource of the Family Ministries Committee to minister to children and families through relevant and vibrant initiatives; leads and manages staff and volunteers for Sunday School, Wednesday after-school program, Vacation Bible School, and Nursery care; co-labors with other staff and volunteers as needed to maximize program benefits and opportunities; participates in regular staff meetings and other meetings as requested; coordinates worship-related elements for children, including a weekly word for Children in the 10 a.m. worship service; works in cooperation with Preschool Director to bring appropriate opportunities to the preschoolers; organizes and executes special events for fun and fellowship; and provides for baptism-related education for families.
Qualifications and requirements: Ideal applicant will have a bachelor’s degree, teaching experience in Christian education, proficiency in multiple software and web-based tools, willingness to receive additional training as opportunities arise, strong interpersonal and writing skills, ability to handle office equipment, carry packages as needful for program needs, good typing/computer skills, and active engagement in the church’s Christian mission. The Phillips Talbot Global Ministry Fellowship is a partnership between Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City and Theological Education by Extension Zambia (TEEZ). TEEZ is an ecumenical project to help answer the leadership shortage in Zambia by training tutors who can lead classes on scripture, theology, and skills for ministry (preaching, counseling, administration) in local churches throughout Zambia. The first months of the Fellowship are spent at Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church, followed by approximately 12 months in Zambia, where Fellows will lead theology trainings and serve in various congregations. The following three months are spent on a fully funded and independently chosen journey through parts of the global south.
