Summer Intern – Austin, TX

The University Baptist Church of Austin, Texas seeks a qualified student exploring a call to ministry to serve for the duration of the summer with the church through an internship designed to explore call and vocation through immersed ministry experiences. UBC is associated with the Alliance of Baptists and the American Baptist Churches, and seeks to be a progressive voice of faith through prophetic preaching, holistic ministry, and LGBTQ inclusion.The internship is designed to: Give real-life experience in ministry settings; Provide mentorship and guidance in discernment; Explore areas of strength and growth in ministry.

This internship will last for a total of 8-12 weeks (dependent on the applicant’s availability). Intern candidates should be in college or seminary and should be ready to express clearly a call to ministry. The tasks associated with this position are: Attend weekly staff meeting; Attend a weekly discernment/call meeting with the Associate Pastor; Assist the Associate Pastor in planning and executing at least two of UBC’s summer ministry opportunities with children and/or youth ministries (i.e. Youth Summer Camp, Children’s Camp, VBS, Youth Mission Trip, Youth Sexuality Retreat); Travel with the youth and children’s ministry for up two weeks of camp ministry; Participate in a weekly worship planning meeting; Provide weekly leadership in worship through scripture reading, liturgy writing and prayer leadership;  Assist pastoral staff in any other task as designated by the Associate Pastor.

YouthWorks Summer Internship Opportunities – Various Locations

YouthWorks is a multi-denominational, nonprofit organization that exists to connect teenagers to God, each other and communities through life-changing, Christ-centered mission trips. 30,000 people take part in service during the summer in over 70 communities.

YouthWorks offers several types of summer staff positions/internships. Although each team member shares many of the same job responsibilities, unique areas of leadership define each position. All summer staff receive their community information and are trained at the beginning of the summer. For example, YouthWorks does not expect all Work Projects Coordinators to know how to teach every aspect of home painting prior to being hired. The main thing we ask is that you would be willing to learn.

Staff work together to create a spiritually focused and servant-centered mission site. All staff participate in evening programming in a leadership capacity and interact with youth at every opportunity. Other responsibilities include building relationships with community members, coordinating one meal a day and having a weekly check-in time with your supervisor.
