Church/Nonprofit Administration

This seminar is required for all first year masters level students.

Every
21st Century Church/Non-profit Leader and Independent MFT therapist/counselor needs a working knowledge administration. Students will leave these seminars better equipped to address the many administrative challenges that arise in ministry. Topics covered include:

  • Managing personnel/understanding legal hiring requirement
  • Managing risks/insurance
  • Managing property
  • Developing and managing a budget
  • Instituting legal accounting practices
  • Developing financial safeguards and financial accountability
  • Filing nonprofit taxes and clergy taxes
  • Developing a social media strategy

Debra is the Director of the Money Matters program and Louisville Seminary Frank H. Caldwell Professor of Homiletics.

shively
Blake is owner of the Blake Shively insurance agency and has more than 20 years of experience in commercial insurance. He has done extensive work with churches of many denominations.

youngblood
Janiel is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the state of Virginia and regular presenter on financial accounting and stewardship at Union Presbyterian Theological Seminary and The School of Theology at Virginia Union University.

wiseman
Karyn is Associate Dean for First Theological Degrees; Associate Professor of Homiletics; Director of United Methodist Studies at the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She regularly presents seminars on social media and technology in ministry.



How to Handle Church Financial Chaos

What do you do when you walk into a church that is in the throes of financial chaos? Rev. Stephanie Welsh shares her experiences as pastor of the Israel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Gary, Indiana, as well as, strategies she employed to improve the situation. Participants will leave the seminar with knowledge and tools that will equip them to analyze their financial situations and identify people inside and outside their organizations to help bring order to the chaos.

Stephanie is the pastor of Israel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, an ordained itinerate elder in the C.M.E. Church, and D.Min. student at LPTS. She earned an M.B.A. from
Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois and Master of Divinity from Garrett Evangelical in Chicago.
