Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy Applicants

The application for admission is available online only, through the Marriage and Family Therapy Common Application System (MFTCAS). Please contact the Office of Admissions if you have any questions or problems using the MFTCAS.

Applicants are responsible for communicating with references and for ensuring that the required reference information is complete. One reference must be a faculty/academic reference from a previous institution.

Deadline for Application
MAMFT Applications are due no later than February 1, with interviews held in early March at Louisville Seminary. Each completed application, if submitted by the February 1 deadline, is considered for a Scholarship for Excellence. There is no spring admission for the MAMFT program.

The deadline for International Students is February 1 for admission the following fall.

The deadline for Special Students, and those probationary candidates with a Bachelor's below a 2.5 GPA is February 1.

MAMFT Application Fee, Background Check and Transcripts
MAMFT Applications require a non-refundable fee for master's programs, paid through the MFTCAS. Applicants must also provide a background check from www.castlebranch.com. Upon completion of the application, applicants will be given instructions to order package code LB88 by logging onto www.castlebranch.com. The cost of this background screening is $36.00 unless the applicant has additional counties that need to be researched.

An application is not considered complete without an application fee, background check, and transcripts from all colleges, universities, and seminaries attended. It is the applicant's responsibility to insure that all information is complete through the MFTCAS. Transcripts should not be sent directly to Louisville Seminary. They should be uploaded to the MFTCAS as instructed.

All official transcripts should be sent to MFTCAS at the following address: MFTCAS Transcript Processing PO Box 9216 Watertown, MA 02471

For your convenience, you can download a barcoded Transcript Request Form within MFTCAS that can be given to your Registrar(s) for processing. Please be advised: it takes up to ten business days for transcripts to process. In order to prevent delays with reviewing your application, request official transcripts immediately. For Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy applicants, an extensive interview process is required for admissions and occurs in person during the Exploratory/first weekend in March.

Admission and Matriculation
An applicant who is admitted to the Seminary should indicate acceptance by filing a tuition deposit with the Office of Admissions. Applicants in good standing may choose to defer enrollment for up to one year from the initial semester of application. Admitted applicants who complete their bachelor's degree the semester before beginning seminary must forward final college transcripts to the Office of Admissions certifying the degree and date of graduation.

Suggestions and tips for MFTCAS
- There is an “Instructions and FAQ” section on the MFTCAS application homepage. We recommend that each applicant run through the Instructions and FAQ’s before beginning your application.
- You are able to follow your progress through the MFTCAS, but you will also hear from us periodically.

- Transcripts: All transcripts are ordered (by the applicant) through the MFTCAS. Please do not order your transcripts from your previous institutions to be sent to Louisville Seminary directly. We require officials for each university you attended. Electronic versions are acceptable for schools who use Credentials Solutions and Parchment services only. Otherwise, the transcript must be sent by mail.
- If you send your transcript to us, we are unable to enter the information into your application. You have the option of paying an extra fee to MFTCAS that will pay for someone to input all of your transcript course data into your application. You do not have to choose to pay extra for this. You may do this yourself; it’s estimated to take at least an hour. You will need access to the unofficial final transcript to input the appropriate data.
- References: We require one reference to be a faculty reference.
