Cate Tucker, longtime friend and supporter of Louisville Seminary, dies

Catherine B. “Cate” Tucker, 91, died Sunday, January 22, 2017, at the Episcopal Church Home. A Native of Springfield, Illinois, Cate (pictured) was the daughter of Cyrus F. and Gatha Maulsby Breeden. She was married to former Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary professor and alum Grayson L. Tucker, Jr. (’52 BD/’56 ThM) for more than 65 years.

Cate TuckerCate and her mother were instrumental in establishing the Breeden Endowed Chair in Pastoral Care and Counseling at Louisville Seminary, where Cate had managed the bookstore for many years.

In addition to her service at Louisville Seminary, Cate served as president of the Parent Teacher Association at Hawthorne Elementary School in Louisville. She also served as treasurer of the Women's Organization at Beulah Presbyterian Church and served in the same role for the Presbyterian Women of the Presbytery of Louisville.

Later, with her husband, she became a member of the Thomas Jefferson Unitarian Church, and finally became a member of the First Unitarian Universalist Church in downtown Louisville.

Cate was preceded in death by her husband, Grayson Tucker. Survivors include her son, Cy Tucker (Marcy); her daughter, Susan Saint-Lockhart (Jerry); grandchildren, Grayson James Saint (Marianne), Suzanne Wilson (Michael), Colleen Leitner (Ty), Ally Tucker, and Chris Lockhart (Sarah); and great-grandchildren, Joshua Howell, Henry Saint, Madilynn Wilson, and Hazel Leitner.

A memorial service will be held at the Episcopal Church Home on Westport Road in Louisville on Saturday, January 28, at 11 a.m.
