Bill Young, Louisville Seminary Alum and Assistant to Seminary President Caldwell, Dies

Bill YoungJ. William “Bill” Young, Jr., a Louisville Seminary alum and assistant to former Louisville Seminary President Frank Caldwell, died Thursday, August 11, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, Mississippi. He was 85.

“Bill was unfailingly kind to me and took a special interest in me when I became John Mulder's assistant,” said Lant Davis, Chair of Louisville Seminary’s Board of Trustees. “I'm sorry to see him go, but glad he is at rest in the joy of his Lord.”

Young’s work at Louisville Seminary included communications, development and fundraising. He was also a former executive director of the CREATE Foundation in Tupelo, a position in which he served from 1986 to 1990. Young (pictured) worked at the community service agency, Lift, Inc., when he moved to Tupelo in 1968, and later owned a pet store in the Downtown Mall for 15 years. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Tupelo.

Young is a graduate of Southwestern at Memphis (Rhodes College), where he earned an undergraduate degree in economics (Phi Beta Kappa); the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he earned a Master of Business Administration degree in accountancy; and Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, where he earned his Master of Divinity degree.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah Bounds Young; daughter, Rachel Elizabeth Young; granddaughters, Koury Elizabeth Young and Hallie Anderson Young; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Wade Anderson Young, MD; brother, Carsie Clark Young; and sister, Erin Young Paulk.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 13, at First Presbyterian Church in Tupelo. Visitation will precede the service at 1:30 p.m. in the church's McFadden Hall.
