Emily MillerThe Reverend Emily W. Miller, an Associate for Recruitment and Relationships for the Young Adult Volunteer (YAV) program of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A.’s national office, has been named Director of Recruitment and Admissions at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Miller (pictured*), who is a Louisville Seminary alum (MDiv 2009) and a Minister of Word and Sacrament of the PC(USA), will begin her work at the seminary January 25, 2016.

As Louisville Seminary’s Director of Recruitment and Admissions, Miller will be responsible for designing and implementing strategies for recruiting students, facilitating and managing the admissions process of applicants, planning and leading orientation for new students, and working with communications personnel to design recruiting materials and update admissions-related web pages and social networking sites.

According to Miller, these responsibilities are consistent with the work that she currently does for the YAV program, and she sees great opportunity in strengthening relationships with Louisville Seminary through collaboration with the seminary’s alum and church relations initiatives. Through her work with YAV, Miller recruits volunteers, organizes alums to recruit on the local level, and works with the YAV alumni community of more than 1,500 people to promote simple living, cultural competency and intentional community.

“In the YAV program, we discuss issues related to race, class and privilege on a regular basis and what our responsibilities are as persons of faith in our current church and social climate,” said Miller. “I want to be in a place where those conversations are happening and continue with opportunities to grow and develop, while helping others do the same. The church has changed and is changing. Louisville Seminary is actively addressing these changes, responding to them in faithful and creative ways, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”

Miller received her Master of Divinity degree from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary and her Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy and religion from Bridgewater College (Bridgewater, Virginia). She serves on the University of Louisville’s UKirk (University Church) Commission for the Mid-Kentucky Presbytery and has served in ministry for several congregations in the Southwest and Midwest United States. The Harrisonburg, Virginia, native was ordained in the Shenandoah Presbytery and is a member of the Presbytery of the Peaks in Lynchburg, Virginia,

“I am very happy that Emily Miller has accepted the call to join us!” said Louisville Seminary Dean Susan R. Garrett. “She has exceptional gifts for connecting with people and organizations, a knack for creative innovation, and a vision for inviting all those who love Louisville Seminary to share in the joyful work of recruiting promising and diverse new students. As a devoted alum, she knows our mission and is deeply committed to the core values that make us such a distinctive and exciting place to prepare for ministry.”
