Dale Melton appointed Vice President for Seminary Relations

by Louisville Seminary | Oct 27, 2009
It was announced yesterday that the Board of Trustees of Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary unanimously and enthusiastically approved President Dean K. Thompson’s appointment of Dale Melton as Vice President for Seminary Relations.

Dr. Thompson announced his appointment during the fall meeting of the Board of Trustees, October 22-24, 2009.

“I am deeply grateful that Dale Melton has agreed to serve our Seminary as Vice President for Seminary Relations,” stated President Thompson. “His intimate knowledge of and experience with our Strategic Plan, our campaign process, and our friends and supporters will help us carry out our mission: Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary is called by God through the church to educate men and women to participate in the redemptive ministry of Jesus Christ in the world.

Melton is a graduate of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C., and earned his Master of Divinity degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C. Following doctoral studies in theology, which were interrupted in 1995, he began working at Louisville Seminary.

In his early support of the Seminary Relations Office, Melton developed the key constituent database, which has become an organizational backbone of the Seminary’s fundraising, friend-raising, and relationship-building efforts. Since 2000, he has served as Database Administrator, as Director of the Annual Fund and Alum Relations, as Associate Vice President for Seminary Relations, and, most recently, as Acting Vice President for Seminary Relations.

In addition to his responsibilities in these positions, Melton has provided ongoing support for the Seminary’s institutional research and effectiveness, including the development of Louisville Seminary’s first Fact Book; the strategic planning process and subsequent implementation of our Strategic Plan (2006-2010); and the initial stages of the Seminary’s capital campaign – The Higher Calling Campaign. During an extended period of transition in the Vice President’s position, following the retirement of Cathy Dawson in 2007, Melton worked diligently to restructure the Seminary Relations department and to help assemble the department’s current team of strong support and leadership.

“I welcome the privilege and high calling to continue serving the mission and vision of Louisville Seminary alongside my colleagues in Seminary Relations and in this community,” said Melton. “With our current Strategic Plan, a strong visioning process, and a solid foundation for the future, led by our Board of Trustees, President Thompson, and the Seminary community, there are high hopes and wonderful opportunities for Louisville Seminary. These times are exciting as God pulls us all into the future in support of theological education, the Church, and Louisville Seminary. I look forward to working with current and future friends of Louisville Seminary in preparing long-distance and transformational pastoral leaders for the global Church.”
