Shannon Daley-Harris to lead service focused on worship and Children

Mar 31, 2009
The Worship Resource Center at Louisville Seminary, supported by a Worship Renewal Grant from the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship, is continuing a seven part sermon series with guest preacher and speaker, Shannon Daley-Harris.

Daley-Harris writes, speaks, and consults on children’s concerns and ways to mobilize the religious community in support of social change. She is a religious advisor to the Children’s Defense Fund and other non-profit organizations working on behalf of children and families.

Daley-Harris has served the Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) for over 18 years in various capacities. While serving as CDF’s Director of Religious Affairs, she created the National Observance of Children’s Sabbaths in 1992 and launched the Proctor Institute for Child Advocacy Ministry in 1995. Since 1998, she has worked as a consultant for CDF, authoring the annual Children’s Sabbaths interfaith resource manual, directing the Samuel DeWitt Proctor Institute for Child Advocacy Ministry, leading an annual Women’s Spiritual Retreat, and coordinating various advocacy projects.

The service will be held Thursday, April 2, 10:10 a.m., in the Frank H. and Fannie W. Caldwell Chapel at Louisville Seminary. The public is invited to attend. A luncheon discussion will follow in the Winn Center.

The Worship Resource Center has been coordinating a variety of worship experiences spread over two academic semesters that explore the relationship between worship and and immigration, persons with disabilities, African Americans, women, children, mission, and technology. Guest preachers and worship leaders help shape each service, which is followed by a luncheon during which the worshippers may engage the preacher in continued conversation.
