LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville and Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary will name winners of the 2008 Grawemeyer Awards next week.

Each year, the Grawemeyer Foundation at UofL awards $1 million -- $200,000 each for works in music composition, ideas improving world order, psychology, education and religion. The religion award is given jointly by UofL and the Seminary.

The five prizes are among the most lucrative awarded in their fields.

Winners of the 2008 awards will be named according to the following schedule:

  • Grawemeyer Award in Music Composition, Monday, Dec. 1
  • Grawemeyer Award in Ideas Improving World Order, Tuesday, Dec. 2
  • Grawemeyer Award in Psychology, Wednesday, Dec. 3
  • Grawemeyer Awards in Education, Thursday, Dec. 4
  • Grawemeyer Award in Religion, Friday, Dec. 5

Charles Grawemeyer, a Louisville industrialist, entrepreneur and UofL graduate, created the awards program in 1984.
