Workshop on Career Assessment to help individuals plan for life after seminary

by Louisville Seminary | Feb 10, 2008
Members of the Louisville Seminary community are hosting a workshop on career assessment and planning for “life after seminary.”

The workshop is primarily for individuals who have accompanied a seminarian to LPTS; however, anyone who is considering job relocation or a career change will find this workshop beneficial.

The three-hour workshop will be held free of charge February 16 from 9 a.m. to noon at Louisville Seminary’s Winn Center. Childcare will be provided with advance registration.

Human resource specialists Cathy Fyock and Shelly Prochaska Trent will facilitate an interactive event that will focus on assessing one’s strengths and transferable skills; developing a job search strategy and identifying local resources in a new town; interviewing and developing a network; and writing a resume that incorporates volunteer work or positions outside of one’s career history.

Catherine D. Fyock, CSP, SPHR, is an employment strategist who writes, educates and speaks on issues of an aging and changing work force. She provides innovative and inspirational learning events and has helped organizations attract top talent, reduce turnover, and improve productivity in a volatile labor market.

Shelly Prochaska Trent has worked with students at Indiana University Southeast in the placement office, and she is currently on staff with the Society for Human Resource Management. She has a passion for helping individuals in career searches.

This workshop is part of a series of education events planned for spouses and partners of seminary students. Coordinated by Christi Felps, the spouse of a Master of Divinity student at LPTS, other topics have included understanding clergy tax and the benefits of a financial budget with Seminary CFO Patrick Cecil; dealing with conflict in a congregation with David Sawyer, Professor of Ministry and the director of Lifelong Learning and Advanced Degrees; exploring “Angels in the Bible and Today” with New Testament Professor Susan Garrett; and “Portraits of God in the Old Testament” with Patricia Tull, A.B. Rhodes Professor of Old Testament.

For more information about the career assessment workshop or to register, email Christi Felps or call 502.380.6243.
