Peter Barnes-Davies will serve as Interim Director of Admissions (short-term) at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, beginning September 6, President Dean K. Thompson announced Wednesday.
While completing his Master of Divinity at San Francisco Theological Seminary, Barnes-Davies served as an outreach assistant in the admissions office there, where his responsibilities included maintaining contact with prospective students, working with the admissions database in tracking follow-up contacts, and participating with the planning team in preparing for inquiry weekends.
In addition to his degree from SFTS, Barnes-Davies earned a bachelor of arts in religious studies from Yale University and his Master of Social Work from Hunter College School of Social Work in New York. As part of his academic studies, he held a pastoral internship at Knox Presbyterian Church in Santa Rosa, Calif., and worked as a social worker at the Center for Family Life in Brooklyn, N.Y.
From 1999-2003 Barnes-Davies served in several mission leadership positions at the Presbyterian Church (USA) in Louisville, Ky., including Associate for Special Projects and Missionary-in-Residence with the former Worldwide Ministries Division. He also served as a mission volunteer to the Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaire) for two years. He has returned to Louisville as his spouse, Rebecca Barnes-Davies, begins her first year in the Master of Divinity degree program at Louisville Seminary.
Barnes-Davies will join the strong admissions team of Rev. Lewis Brogdon (LPTS M.Div. ’05), Associate Director of Admissions, Becky Barrett, Assistant, and the outstanding students who serve with them. His willingness to support the department at this time will be very helpful as the recruiting office prepares for 30-40 prospective students and their families and friends who will attend the fall Exploratory Weekend, October 5-6.
During this period of transition, Associate Dean Rev. David Gray will moderate a search team that will assist in selecting a permanent Director of Admissions. Inquiries regarding the position may be directed to the President’s Office, and the job description will be posted on the Seminary’s website, www.lpts.edu.
