Kerry Rice, Director of Admissions at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, announced last week that he will serve as Manager of Meeting Services/Assistant Stated Clerk with the Office of the General Assembly at the Presbyterian Church (USA) in Louisville, Ky.
Rice, who has directed the Seminary’s student recruiting office since 2003, said his years at Louisville Seminary “have been both challenging and rewarding,” adding that they have prepared him for the challenges ahead in the denominational office. His new work will involve coordination of activities related to the biennial General Assembly of the denomination and the development of theological resources related to the assembly theme, among other responsibilities.
“I am excited about the opportunity to ‘help set the table’ for the PCUSA family to come together every two years to share and make decisions,” said Rice.
“Kerry Rice will bring outstanding administrative and leadership gifts to the Office of the General Assembly,” commented Seminary President Dean K. Thompson.
Upon receiving the news, several individuals within the Seminary congratulated Rice, recognizing him for his positive spirit, dedication, and skill in helping students follow God’s call to ministry at LPTS.
“Kerry Rice has been at the heart and soul of the admissions process: an exemplary administrator, attentive to prospective students’ needs, desires, and anxieties, creative and imaginative in his office as well as in his vision for the Seminary more broadly, and a continuing good friend and advocate for students once they have come here,” said Seminary Dean David C. Hester.
Rice came to the Admissions position after 15 years of ministry with the General Assembly Council of the Presbyterian Church (USA), where he served as Coordinator for National Volunteers in the National Ministries Division and previously on the Child Advocacy and Young Adult Ministry staff. He had also served as a field education supervisor for Louisville Seminary.
Rice is an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and is married to LPTS alumna Rev. Cynthia Cushman (MDiv ‘94), who serves as a program manager for Bellewood Presbyterian Homes for Children.
The search for a director of admissions will begin immediately. Inquiries can be addressed to the Associate Dean, Rev. David Gray, and the job description will be posted on the Seminary’s website.
Under Gray’s supervision, the Office of Admissions will continue its exemplary work through the leadership of Rev. Lewis Brogdon (MDiv ’05), Associate Director of Admissions, Becky Barrett, Assistant, and several outstanding students who serve with them. Together they anticipate welcoming 40-50 prospective students and their family and friends at the Fall Exploratory Weekend, October 5-6.
Reservations for the weekend experience of classes, worship, seminary planning, and campus life, may still be requested by calling toll-free, 800.264.1839, or by registering online at www.lpts.edu/admissions.
