    Technical Services Specialist

    This position is  part of the team at the Ernest Miller White Library.  Main duties orders, receives, and performs basic cataloging operations for monographs in all formats; tracks annual expenditures for relevant budget areas, maintains vendor relations, and attends to other duties as assigned.

    Acquisitions (55%)

    1. Processes order requests for monographs in all formats
    2. Places orders for new library materials and corresponds with publishers and vendors
    3. Receives and processes shipments
    4. Returns duplicate volumes, damaged items, and titles received in error
    5. Maintains orders by claiming titles not yet received
    6. Authorizes payment of invoices for monographs and serials and maintains invoice files
    7. Receives Standing Order titles, maintains Standing Orders by searching new titles published, and maintains current lists of titles published as well as Standing Order Agreements
    8. Processes gift books and facilitates donations
    Cataloging (45%)

    1. Performs copy cataloging, editing, updating, and importing of records from OCLC to the library system using Connexion software
    2. Enters item records for bibliographic records already in library system
    3. Generates labels for cataloged items
    4. Performs other database maintenance functions when necessary

    Other duties

    1. Supervises student workers who check selections against the library holdings and prepare materials for addition to the collection
    2. Assists at circulation desk when necessary
    3. Performs other technical services duties as assigned


    • Bachelor’s degree
    • General computing skills, including database searching
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office software, especially Word and Excel
    • Facility with detailed work and organization
    • Ability to balance accuracy and productivity

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 1-2 years library experience, particularly in technical services
    • Working familiarity with cataloging standards and OCLC Connexion software
    • Experience with integrated library systems
    • Familiarity with publishers of theological material
