Scott WilliamsonOur students uproot themselves and often their families to follow the call of God to ministry. This often means, amongother things, that their financial picture changes substantially. Students must leave full time jobs to juggle part time work with studies, spouses seek work for a short period of time -- generally 2 to 4 years -- and, although Louisville Seminary provides up to 100% of tuition for students with demonstrated need, many students are forced to borrow to meet living expenses. Upon graduation and entry into a first congregational call they must then begin repaying debt with an often modest salary. There are many ways that we can help these committed men and women.

Scholarship endowments provide the possibility for naming a fund or scholarship either for the donor or in honor or memory of a treasured teacher, friend or family member.

  • A gift of $400,000 will endow a merit scholarship for aid to students who maintain a record of academic excellence and who show exceptional promise for pastoral leadership. These are full scholarships, covering both tuition and living expenses.

  • A gift of $170,000 will also endow a tuition scholarship, awarded to any student who, after applying their own resources to their education, still demonstrates financial need.

  • A Doctor of Ministry scholarship endowment may be established with a gift of $100,000. Earnings on these endowments provide scholarship awards for pastors, many from small churches, who want to sharpen their pastoral leadership skills through continuing education in the Seminary's advanced degree program.

  • Scholarships for pastors pursuing continuing education; or stipends for lay congregational leaders pursuing theological education without ordination, may be established through an endowment of $10,000 or more. Seminary graduates often leave with an educational debt burden, answer a call which pays a modest salary, and find themselves with scarcely more resources to continue their formation in ministry than they had as a first degree student. Continuing education provides for life long learning and renewal.
