Historical Images 

Nine emblem books printed in Early Modern England from the Penn State University Libraries.  “An unparalleled source not only for the study of daily life of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries but also for extraordinary insights into what the intellectuals of the times viewed as a necessary adjunct to heraldry, social life, politics, philosophy, and moral behavior.”

“Over 30,000 photographs, drawn form the holdings of the Western History and Genealogy Department at Denver Public Library, illuminate many aspects of the history of the American West.  Most of the photographs were taken between 1860 and 1920.  They illustrate Colorado towns and landscape, document the place of mining in the history of Colorado and the West, and show the lives of Native Americans form more than forty tribes living west of the Mississippi River.”  Includes Presbyterian and Catholic churches from the 19th century.

Permissions:  The Denver Public Library encourages use of these materials under the fair use clause of the 1976 copyright act.  All images in this collection may be used for educational, scholarly purposes and private study.  A credit line must be included with each item used.
